Roberto Litzenberger, a full-time backgammon professional hailing originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, now calls Charlottesville, Virginia his home. Delving into the realm of backgammon tournaments in 2010, Roberto quickly garnered recognition for his serene teaching demeanor and adaptable instructional approaches.

His list of major triumphs includes prestigious titles such as the Texas Longhorn Masters Champion, the Longship Super Jackpot winner, the 2018 Cherry Blossom ABT Champion, and the 2019 Montecarlo Open Consolation winner. A testament to his collaborative prowess, Roberto has been invited five times to represent the US Backgammon National Team in the World Team Championship event, in addition to clinching victory in 13 doubles events championships worldwide.

Roberto’s stature as a formidable backgammon player is underscored by his rankings. Voted as the 39th Giant of Backgammon in 2019 and 50th in 2024, he consistently holds a prominent position near the top of the Backgammon World Ranking. With a Master M1 rank bestowed by the BMAB and a notable 4th place in all-time USBGF master points, Roberto’s expertise is widely acknowledged in the backgammon community.

Passionate about imparting the intricacies and thrill of the game, Roberto employs various teaching methods tailored to players of all levels. Among his favored techniques is the reference position comparison approach, which allows for comprehensive learning and strategic development.

In addition to his teaching endeavors, Roberto remains an active participant in the online circuit and tournaments across the USA and internationally. Whether ascending the rankings or engaging in friendly competition, Roberto’s vision extends beyond the backgammon board—he envisions himself atop a mountain peak, gazing at the clouds, all while engaged in a spirited match.
