World of “Amirsnooker”

Amir’s journey into the world of backgammon is as unique as it is inspiring. Born in Tehran in 1983, Amir’s early fascination with intelligence and mathematical puzzles laid the groundwork for his eventual immersion in the game. While pursuing his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2007, he stumbled upon backgammon, an unexpected discovery for someone deeply entrenched in the world of snooker, a game of skill and chance.

Recognizing the parallels between backgammon and snooker, Amir’s curiosity was piqued, leading him to delve into the intricacies of the ancient game. However, his pursuit was not without challenges. In a country where backgammon was deemed illegal, Amir’s quest for knowledge was met with limited resources and a dearth of opportunities for competitive play. Undeterred, he turned to the vast expanse of the internet, where he discovered GNU as both a mentor and a guide, laying the foundation for his backgammon education from 2007 to 2012.

Amir’s determination to excel led him to GridGammon, where he adopted the moniker “Amirsnooker” and honed his skills by studying the tactics of top players. Embracing the teachings of XG in 2012 marked a significant milestone in his journey, further refining his understanding of the game and solidifying his status as a formidable contender.

His ascent in the backgammon world was marked by notable achievements, including a fourth-place finish in the Online Nations Cup Team Championship on GridGammon in 2011. However, it was in 2015 that he truly made his mark on the international stage, clinching victory in the prestigious Istavder Anniversary tournament against a field of approximately 350 competitors.

Amir’s success continued to soar as he reached the finals of the Istavder doubles tournament in February 2016 and secured a prominent placing in the Shiraz Open Championship in Iran, boasting a field of 110 players. Despite these triumphs, Amir’s ambitions extend far beyond individual accolades. He envisions backgammon as a catalyst for unity and understanding, transcending boundaries of nationality, belief, and religion.

With unwavering optimism and a steadfast belief in the transformative power of backgammon, Amir looks ahead to a future filled with even greater challenges and opportunities on the international stage. His journey is not just one of personal triumph, but a testament to the enduring spirit of camaraderie and inclusivity that defines the world of backgammon.
