Masayuki “Mochy” Mochizuki, universally acclaimed and voted as the #1 backgammon player on the Giants List for an unprecedented decade since 2013, has been a towering figure in the international backgammon community. Born in Tokyo in 1979, Mochy embarked on his international career in 2001, quickly ascending to the pinnacle of backgammon excellence.

Mochy’s illustrious career is studded with remarkable achievements. He has clinched the world championship title twice, in 2009 and again in 2021, and has dominated the Ultimate Backgammon Championship four times in the last five years. Among his other notable tournament victories are the Las Vegas Open, the Nordic Open Super Jackpot, the European Championship, the European Pro Championships, the Chicago Open, the Texan Backgammon Championship, the Monte Carlo Open, the 5k event in Melbourne, numerous national titles in Japan and the list goes on. His exceptional skill and unwavering dedication were recognized when he was inducted into the American Backgammon Hall of Fame in 2023.

In 2019, Mochy achieved the prestigious Super Grand Master status, a testament to his unparalleled skill and dedication. He maintained a performance rating (PR) lower than 2.5 over 300 matches at the Backgammon Masters Awarding Body (BMAB), setting a benchmark as the best PR recorded worldwide.
