Ian Terry’s journey into the realm of backgammon commenced in 2013, marking the beginning of a passionate pursuit that would shape his future in the game. Over the past eight years, Terry has immersed himself in the intricacies of backgammon, honing his skills and rising through the ranks with dedication and determination.

In 2021, Terry’s commitment to the game earned him a coveted spot on the U.S. team at the World Team Championships held in Trier, Germany, marking a significant milestone in his backgammon career. The following year, his efforts were recognized with the prestigious title of Master3 bestowed upon him by the Backgammon Masters Awarding Body, underscoring his proficiency and expertise in the game.

However, it was in 2023 that Terry’s talents truly shone on the global stage. As a member of “The Loose Ones,” Terry played a pivotal role in securing victory at the 2023 World Club Championships held in Chicago, showcasing his strategic prowess and teamwork. Additionally, he contributed to the silver medal-winning U.S. team at the 2023 World Team Championships in Skopje, further solidifying his reputation as a formidable competitor. With an impressive record of 9-1 in WBF team events, Terry humorously dubs himself backgammon’s ultimate “team player,” a testament to his collaborative spirit and ability to thrive in a team setting. Beyond his team achievements, Terry’s individual prowess is evident in his third-place finish at the St. Louis Gateway Open in 2023, highlighting his ability to excel in competitive tournaments.

Terry’s passion for backgammon extends beyond the competitive arena. He derives immense satisfaction from working with intermediates and novice division players, guiding them on their journey to elevate their game to the next level. His approachable demeanor and wealth of knowledge make him an invaluable mentor to aspiring players seeking to improve their skills.

Outside of backgammon, Terry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University, graduating in 2013. Currently based in Houston, Texas, he serves as a Senior Consultant, balancing his professional endeavors with his passion for backgammon.
